D-Link 580TX with Dell GX240 problem
Hi there,
I have experienced a strange problem with D-Link 580TX 4 port card recently.
We have a Dell Optiplex GX240 with a 580TX card running Redhat 8 (kernel
2.4.20-24.8). It has been there for more than one year with no problem. Now
since Redhat terminated the security update, we decided to go for Debian
(sarge kernel 2.4.24-1-686). The 580TX card uses sundance driver. With
configuration in modules.conf, the system has no problem to set the four
ports up. However, when I try to ping via the 4 ports, either it has
intermittent problem (such as roundtrip time goes as high as a few seconds
by ping a host within the same LAN), or there is no connection at all. I
tried the latest sundance driver from www.scyld.com/network/ethercard.html,
and also upgrade the BIOS from release A03 to latest A05, but neither of
them help to resolve the problem. The strange thing is that, with the
exactly same hardware, we don't have any problem with Redhat installation;
With the same Debian release, we powered a Dell PowerEdge 650 and the same
580TX card without any problem.
