Re: [debian-printing] Packaging of vendor PPD files.
You may want to look at the package hp-ppd for ideas.
Also note the site http://www.linuxprinting.org/
and the quote:
"The centralized place for PPDs under free licenses exists, and I am the
maintainer, it is here: http://www.linuxprinting.org/download/PPD/"
from http://www.linuxprinting.org/pipermail/hp-list/2003q4/004289.html
Also please see bug 222218
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=222218
Vendor provided "real" PPD's for postscript printers are needed by many
packages, not just cups, to support all the features of the postscript
printer. The hp-ppd package links the ppd's into cups but places them in a
sensible "central" location so they are available to other programs too.
Packaging more for debian is a good thing. The maintainer of hp-ppd
package may be able to give you some pointers?
