Which means that a user lambda using a Debian kernel and which doesn't
have the skills to rebuild a kernel can't use lmsensors to monitor his
mainboard?

I have read some times ago that the lm-sensors team was looking for
somebody to send patches to Marcelo. Maybe it is possible to send him
patches so that i2c 2.8.2 is included 2.4.24^W25. Then you just have
to set a dependency on kernel >= 2.4.25. And it would also solve
the problem for other distributions.

Cheers,
Aurelien
