If that is not what wine developers wanted to happen, they should not
have chosen to originally release wine under the BSD license.

The (L)GPL would have of course prevented this from happening, which I
assume is why they later relicensed wine under the LGPL.

They have no such right (at least legally) for works licensed under the
BSD license.
