As has been told repeatedly: Because switching to bi- or multiarch
requires extensive changes to thousands of packages in Debian and will
take years. Fixing this is way beyond what a porting team alone can
do, it requires a concerted effort and will take _long_.
The choice is between the currently available pure-amd64 port and no
useable amd64 port for at least a year.
