It's probably worth noting that the dpkg I downloaded as of 5 minutes ago
still doesn't support the amd64 architecture. This is a trivial patch,
but it's rather important. [And, but one of many steps that needs to
be accomplished to bring the amd64 port into main. The whole point of
the DFSG and the social contract is that we be able to do these kinds
of steps -- and that we do so.]
Trying to solve a problem while avoiding talking about the critical
issues isn't going to get us very far.
