apt-proxy already got rewritten. See the version in experimental
(written in Python/twisted and currently at 1.9.10). It's almost
ready to hit unstable; there are just some differences in the
max_versions behaviour compared to version 1 which need fixing first.
The author of the rewrite, Ranty, does not have time to work on
apt-proxy at the moment so I'm maintaining it again. But I don't have a
lot of spare time so I'd be glad for some help with it.
