TTBOMK, request_firmware is fine for 2.4 as of 2.4.23:

2.2 kernels in sarge are:
	m68k: 2.2.25 (6 variants)
	powerpc: 2.2.10 for apus
	sparc: 2.2.20 (4 variants: sun4cdm, sun4dm-smp, sun4u, sun4u-smp)

The m68k variants have corresponding 2.4.25 variants.
Ditto powerpc.

The sparc images don't have corresponding 2.4.x based variants, afaics.

Cheers,
aj
