I wonder if its easy/possible with udev to create a tree with

/dev/label/<cdrom/disk/partition label>
/dev/uuid/<cdrom/disk/partition uuid>

Or maybe sorted into media type first:

/dev/cdroms/<CD label>
/dev/discs/<disk/partition name>
