BTW:
Removing as many kernel modules for 2.4 kernels as possible was also 
part of my initial proposal.

No, Herbert has done the right decision to provide the same kernel 2.4 
flavours for Debian 3.1 than are in Debian 3.0 and chnging the flavours 
in the kernel 2.6 images.
