... moreover, I'm pretty sure d-i will still DTRT if you did muddle with
the cache mid-install.  (Or if not, it's only because cdebconf keeps its
cache *in memory*... :)

The proposed replacement for debconf note abuse is apt-listchanges +
NEWS.Debian, for which there is currently no l10n mechanism.
