Bug#230121: ITP: metalog -- a modern replacement for syslogd and klogd
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
* Package name : metalog
Version : 0.7

Description : a modern replacement for syslogd and klogd
The metalog package was in Debian once, but it was recently removed.
According to Martin Michlmayr:
---quote---
This package has been removed from Debian unstable because it was
unmaintained, old and according to the maintainer quite obsolte and
useless.
---quote---
I will try to comment this:
- unmaintained
I'll try to maintain it better then the previous maintainer...
- old
The last release (0.7) is dated April 2003, we have tons of older
software in the archive, so I don't see the point.
- obsolete & useless
Martin or the maintainer didn't give any arguments I could discuss. I
think metalog is very useful, especialy for desktop systems because of
its simplicity, regex matching support and built-in log rotation. The
only problem I'm aware of is the lack of network logging support.
metalog didn't have any RC bugs either...
I'm a bit confused that it was removed from the archive without any
real reason (as far as I know).
Any comments?

Adam Byrtek
