Some people suggested deleting rc symlinks, but that is the wrong
thing to do.  The Sys V init system assumes that there is an symlink
for every service in every runlevel.  If there is neither a start
nor a stop link for a service in a particular runlevel then the
resulting behavior is not defined.  See my earlier post:

If you don't want a service to be started automatically in a
particular runlevel then rename its rc symlink for that runlevel
from Snnfoo to Knnfoo.
