| Since you have tcl8.4 in there, I presume you are building in a
| debian sid environment.

Yes, you are right. I'm building on a debian sid box.

| I have a preliminary vtk-4.2.2 built in my sid chroot. I have not
| fully incorporated the Gavin Baker features of cmake into the vtk
| build. (I had been hoping they would make a Woody backport easier,
| too. But it may be best to give up on that goal with the desired
| schedule for Sarge release.)

Interesting. Did you expirience any build-troubles like I? I've tried to
track down what's happening and found out, that with enables
VTK_WRAP_TCL or VTK_WRAP_PYTHON some objects vom Hyrid aren't built
(e.g. vtkPushImageReader.o, vtkPushPipeline.o). They are simply not in
the Makefile after calling cmake. After a quick examination i found some
typos in Hybrid/CMakeList.txt which are already fixed in upstream cvs
(missing .cxx extension).

| I also want to fix bug #199907 with the next upload, in addition to
| the Python2.3 migration. Any clues on that can be sent my way.

What about installing so's into /usr/lib/vtk and also copy cmake related
stuff here and make symlinks in /usr/lib to the real so's.
