Really, where is that documented on Alioth? It's not. What is
documented is:
<quote>
The purpose of Alioth, as stated on
http://alioth.debian.org/tos/tos.php, is to provide facilities for
specific kind of projects :
* Free software or free documentation (as defined by the Debian Free
Software Guidelines) authored by Debian developers, or free
software/documentation where a Debian developer is part of the core
team.
* Free documentation concerning Debian or any of its derivatives.
* Other projects (non-software, non-documentation) whose goal is to
promote Debian.
* Other projects (non-software, non-documentation) whose goal is to
promote free software in general, if those initiatives are backed by
Debian or by a group a Debian developers.
* Any other project where you can convince the Alioth's administrators
that it will help Debian achieve World Domination.
</quote>
Being the maintainer of the package in question and also now the main
developer, I (erroneously) thought I would qualify under the first item.
Also, based on the above a "sponsor" would not directly qualify for any
of these.
Would I mind having a sponsor in this situation, hell no. Is it obvious
that having a sponsor would change the outcome of the decision, no. I
have followed up on this and one of the Alioth admins indicated that
NM's are in a "grey" area and that something might be able to be worked
out via their AM. I supplied the requested information regarding my AM
and have heard nothing further on the matter.
