I think you're both missing the point.

Debian is a free distribution which is mostly written for free.  If people 
want to write something for free then it'll get done.  If people don't then 
it won't.

We could spend a lot of time discussing whether or not something should be 
written, but in the end it comes down to whether there is someone who has the 
skill, inclination, and time to do it.
