Hey all, Manoj, Matt Zimmerman and I discussed on IRC the possibility of changing the default behaviour of kernel-package with regard to the 'patch_the_kernel' option. At the moment the default is 'patch_the_kernel = no' which means that make-kpkg will never patch the kernel, regardless of command-line options and such. The default behaviour that makes sense to me, and probably some others, is 'patch_the_kernel = auto', which means that the kernel is patched when make-kpkg is called with '--added-patches'. This post is meant to inform others of the potential change and to invite discussion on the change and to discover how others feel about this.
