It is possible that there are differences in efficiency between these
implementations, but I have not measured them.

I think "screwed" is an exaggeration, but 4.2GB at 6.5MB/sec is over 10
minutes.  If, for example, the situation is an emergency data restore, then
the difference between 5 minutes and 10 minutes is significant.
