  It might be a minor annoyance when you're reading Bob's Random 10-page PDF,
but I've had occasion, from time to time, to read entire (text)books in PDF
format, and flipping through a few hundred pages to find section 5.3.1 [0]
gets really old REALLY quickly.

  [0] well, ok, I guess if xpdf supports jumping to a particular page,
   you could do a binary search, but that's ... not quite the same.
