[n8vnr@nivex.net: Bug#159974: ax25-apps: File conflict with icecast-client]
Hi all,
According to policy, this problem must be resolved by a consensus on debian-devel,
or both programs have to be renamed:
>From Chapter 11 of the policy manual:
Two different packages must not install programs with different functionality but with the same filenames. (The case of two programs having the same functionality but different implementations is handled via `alternatives' or the `Conflicts' mechanism. See Maintainer Scripts, Section 2.3.9 and Conflicting binary packages - Conflicts, Section 7.3 respectively.) If this case happens, one of the programs must be renamed. The maintainers should report this to the debian-devel mailing list and try to find a consensus about which program will have to be renamed. If a consensus cannot be reached, both programs must be renamed.
I submit that ax25-apps has had a program called listen well before 1999 when icecast was
developed (according to apt-cache show icecast-client), and has "first use" rights in this
particular case.
Let the debate begin!
