It's 4 times faster than any LAN I've seen, it's impressive enough.

Also on a long distance connection you have the issue of latency which 
reduces the throughput.  A 500Mb/s network link covering that distance is 
very unlikely to deliver 401Mb/s of sustained throughput.  Even OC-12 
connections when going through a few routers are unlikely to deliver 401Mb/s 
sustained, a combination of latency and the occasional lost packet will 
really slow things down.
