X11: Can't find file "xfree86" for keycodes include

I tried to use "metacity" as my window manager but when I use "startx",
I get the following error messages:

The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Error: Can't find file "xfree86" for keycodes include
> Exiting
> Abandoning keycodes file "default"
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap
Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list!
-------------------------------------------------------------

Searching the web produces 4 hits, one in japanese, one in italian and
two in german Debian mailing lists. As far as I could understand no
solution was provided.

This problem seems to be Debian X packages related. As much as I guess
it seems under certain circumstances not all files where installed.
