Don't you think it is enough if there is another package for the
stable release of plib (it is called plib).

Btw, as it looks right now, the development of plib is not the
fastest in the free software world...

You would like to be able to have different minor releases of
the same library installed side by side? Hmm, this is not the
way the inventor of the x.y.z naming scheme of the libraries
meant it to be.

I agree, same x.y numbered libraries should be binary
compatible. That's what I would expect from a stable release.
But beware, plib1.5 is the unstable / development release of
plib. I expect them to break binary compatibility from release
to release. And if you really need to link against such a
library with a locally built binary, you should be aware of
this too.
