Online help for GNOME programs

Hello,

I have a question about the manuals for the programs in the
gnome-utils package.

The packages from gnome-utils all have extensive manuals
which serve as an online-help, too. Currently these manuals
reside in /usr/share/gnome/help. They need to be accessible
via this path because otherwise the online help would break.

My problem is, that doc-base is not happy with this
location: doc-central and friends try to access documents
via http and the web server wisely refuses to serve files
from /usr/share.

A possible solution would be to

  1) Move the documents to /usr/share/doc/gnome-utils/

  2) Add links from /usr/share/gnome/help into the
     above directories.

This is done by some of the other Gnome packages, but I'm
not completely happy with this: My understanding is, that
the admin is guaranteed to be able to remove /usr/share/doc
without ill effects. But with the above setup removing
/usr/share/doc would break the applications' online help.

So my question is: how should I proceed to register the
gnome-utils documentation with doc-base?
