Bug#134430: oops
Reading the last paragraph a bit more closely, I see they are.
etherconf managed to hose my system when I tried it for a moment; I
don't recommend using it if you have a working configuration. But
anyway, it refuses to not include a fully qualified name in
/etc/hostname. I suggest reassigning this bug to it.
