 Look at either of:

 :help pastetoggle
 :help mouse

 And no, you don't need vim-gtk for this, plain vim (the package by that
 name) does it.  "*p pastes the contents of the X11 cut buffer, but if
 you don't want to use X, pastetoggle will do it.
