Note that I'm not one of the people who were criticizing said build system
earlier in this thread.  I imagine that said author's experience with the
current system will enable you, er, him/her to get the new one mostly right the
first time, which will benefit us all.

I don't use DBS or its analogues in my packages.  This is not because I don't
think they would benefit from such an arrangement, but because the current
implementation makes my life more difficult (especially with CVS).  I would
enthusiastically embrace a dpkg-source-based implementation.
