No, then you'd never know when new packages appeared. You'd have to have
an ls-lR file of that directory or something, listing each of the little
Packages-<package>.gz files and a timestamp or something, and compare
them.
hmmm... what about one Packages for each section? Like main/x11 and
main/base?
