Maintainers needing help closing bugs
I've been perusing the bug catalogs, and I thought it might be useful
for others who want to help closing bugs, to see which maintainers
need the most help. Here's a list of the oldest bugs (also see the
list of bugs more than 2 years old at
master.debian.org/~ajt/oldbugs.html). Following that is a list sorted
by number of open bugs. Even bugs labeled as having been sent
upstream, may be able to be closed now, if someone can verify an
upstream change has fixed the bug. Other old bugs can be closed
because events have overtaken them.
I noticed the recent mailing to maintainers by Colin Watson in
conjunction with the bug-squashing parties. Another idea, for handling
old bugs, would be to initiate a message to the *originator*, asking
if they think the bug should still be open. I think no- response
should be taken as 'No'. But we may also get many 'No' answers, which
would allow a maintainer to immediately close the bug with nomore
effort.
