No. We will release ia64 in woody with gcc-2.96 as the default, and gcc-3.0
as an available option.
The 2.96 compiler from a feature standpoint is part-way between the 2.95 stuff
in vogue on i386 and the final 3.0... so some of the updates required for 3.0
are needed for compiling on IA-64, but not all of them.
In general, making packages cleanly compile with gcc-3.0 is a necessary thing,
and has the side effect of fixing most of the issues for IA-64 compilation as
well.
