Done, I've applied a workaround successfully. Daniel Chen
pointed me to a message from Takuo Kitame. Thanks, Daniel.


In case others missed the workaround, too: 

>      (user) % gcondtool --shutdown
>     (root) # GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=xml::/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults \
>              gconftool --makefile-install-rule /etc/gconf/schemas/galeon.schemas
