Unfortunately, Broadcast 2000 claims to require kernel version 2.4.3. [0] I
hope they at LEAST mean >= 2.4.3.

Why would it require a specific kernel version anyway?

FWIW, I've packaged (but not uploaded) libmpeg3 from the same group,
which claims to require kernel version 2.4.4 . It seems to work fine, and
I'm running a 2.2 kernel.

Their explanation for the kernel dependency is this:

The first thing every Linux hacker learns is that the kernel contains
pointer offsets and function prototypes which change in every release.
This means the kernel version has to be matched to the point release.

To which I ask:

1. why are you making direct kernel calls in the first place?
2. isn't that what header files are for?

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? No flaming necesary, I'm just
confused.
