Well, I see apt-get source xxxx hang during the dpkg-source -x phase,
whilst subsequently issuing the dpkg-source -x by hand works fine...
Is this possibly related?
I'm using windowmaker and bash

But it hasn't been updated in a long time, many would say that it's
sadly out of date, and the upstream maintainer doesn't respond to his
email. :-)
