    It would seriously hurt my sense of esthetics.

Would it hurt more than not complying to the FHS?

The cost of complying to the FHS is hurting some persons' sense of
esthetics (adding the symlink to /usr/sbin).  No breakage would be
caused at all.

The question now is what is more valued by Debian's developers:
esthetics or compliance with the FHS.
