What version of dpkg?  I hope it wasn't some cvs version.  There was a time
when dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile would output corrupt data(a debug stmt was being
print out in the middle of the tar stream).  This has been fixed, however.

Note, that this has not been uploaded in deb form to the archive.
