Re: Splitting locales and i18ndata from glibc into some sane packages



While not being a developer (yet), here's a suggestion.
For these multilingual problems, how about providing a YouChoose.deb.
Its executable would provide picklists to the User, and then download
the only the Selected Language chuncks and install them.  Only the
YouChoose.deb would have to be in the Package Lists

With respect to being a space hog, 
   du | sort -rn 
shows that
46699   /usr/share/doc
42393   /usr/X11R6
30444   /usr/bin
29194   /usr/X11R6/lib
28530   /usr/lib/netscape
24424   /usr/share/locale
locale files are pretty high.  This troubles small disk installations on
older machines.
