X4 DRI refuses to go direct



Hi,

After successful installation (some problems remain) of
kernel-2.4.0-test10 on my Woody SMP machine the hope was for X4 to
start up with direct rendering enabled. But this was not the case :(

Another attempt was to insmod agpgart.o and mga.o manually before
starting X: startx > x016.log 2>&1
But now the computer _slows down_ totally!! The response time goes
down to minutes!! X seem to start up but waiting 30 minutes X still had
not started: I can log in remotely and reboot or kill processes
without problems (except long response time). Top shows that X is taking all CPU!!

Maybe this is an FAQ. Anyone have pointers or hints?
