as simply as possible, a maintainer must:
answer and work on bug reports for his packages
keep up with debian policy and packaging rules
keep up to date with the upstream releases, it is also hoped that the debian
developer talks to the upstream and sends user feedback to them
as much as possible, be a part of Debian's processes. This means watching for
votes, responding with ideas, voicing criticisms and praise, etc.
