Kernel for X4 with DRI?

After some minor tweaking 4.0.1 is now running on my (woody) SMP machine
with a G400 card, thank you Branden!
(except the Swedish letters don't work in xterm, they did in v3.3.x)

However, for 3D acceleration my custom built 2.2.17 kernel is lacking
the mga.o file. Obviously one has to compile a v2.4pre kernel to get
access to the kernel modules for DRI. Is this true? I would prefer to
stay with 2.2.x until 2.4.0 is released. (RH have them already in
kernels 2.2.16-24 and 2.2.17-4. Are these kernels patched by RH?)

However, following the debian-user and debian-devel lists people seem
to be using test versions of 2.4, preferably the latest one,
test10. On the debian unstable ftp area the latest kernel
source is test5. Can I download and build the latest (test10) kernel using the
kernel-package or do I have to resort to the latest in unstable
(test5)?

I have been using utah-glx earlier with good results. Does anyone have a
good advice how to enable a switch back and forth between 3.3.6/utah
and 4.0.1/DRI?

Keep up the good work Debianers!
