I'll get around to it incrementally ;)
ecasound takes an hour to build here, and it's taking a lot of time to
debuild <g> 

Yes, it seems like someone who takes ecasound should naturally take
ecawave if things permit, because ecawave and ecasound have quite
strict dependency on it (just like, libnspr and mozilla?).
