Of course MD5 sums on a Debian system have been prepared such
that many important files will have MD5's lacking, and naturally
debsums will not be able to check them.

The thing is I'd accidentally wiped off some blocks (1mb) from
my root partition on a multi-user Beowulf master system which
I'm administrating. So, I was quite interested in finding out
which files actually got their share from my incredible action.
But life's frustrating, and I'm thinking of a bug report about
the base system :) One day people will look and say "whoa this
person has submitted tons of bug reports..." :) The worse part
is that I track what's actually happening with each bugreport :)
Isn't that what BTS is for? :)

Thanks,
