GNOME apps. not responding to XSendEvent

Hi all:

I am writing an application that grabs the keyboard
and sends simulated events the window with the
keyboard focus. But I am seeing some strange
behaviors.

1. When the event structure root window is set Qt/KDE
based application work.

2. When the root parameter is not set, Gtk
applications work but not Qt apps.

3. None of the standard Xt apps like Netscape and
xterm respond.

Do window managers treat sendEvents differently? Do
normal Xt applications not repond to SendEvents?

Any theories?
