The fact is that gdk_pixbuf itself doesn't depend on GNOME at all - it
depends on glib (which gtk itself depends on). There is a library for
using images the gdk_pixbuf loads in the GNOME Canvas which is included
in the same source package as the rest of the gdk_pixbuf stuff. Its
currently included in the gdk_pixbuf Debian package - it could easily
be split off into another one.

Sean described gdk_pixbuf as "another useful GTK+ library that GNOME has
ensured only GNOME hackers can play with". I can't take that as anything
but a Debian developer in a grumpy mood. I'm sure he did an ldd on
/usr/lib/libgdk_pixbuf.so.1 to find that it doesn't depend on any GNOME
libraries, so grumpiness is the only explination I can think of. If he
explained to Vincent why he wanted to depend on gdk_pixbuf without
depending on GNOME stuff I'm sure Vincent would make the required
changes to gdk_pixbuf's packaging.

Flame wars are not desirable, even if they can be fun, and I don't see
the point of discussing KDE till they release some code under a license
that allows binary distribution.
