kernel: rpc.statd forgot to set AF_INET in udp sendmsg. Fix it!



I have a Dell Workstation 410 running Debian potato and a 2.2.13 SMP
kernel

I have two disks with a debian distribution on each which I synchronize
about once a week. [As we say in New England, I am a "belt and
suspenders" type]

At any rate, upon booting the second disk, the following message
appeared on the console (full syslog at end)

Apr  9 13:31:41 hilbert kernel: rpc.statd forgot to set AF_INET in udp

This completely disabled the network.

Despite the fact that it was a kernel message, I thought perhaps it was
some difference between the states of potato on my two disks, so I
upgraded by hand all packages even remotely related to the system or
network.  No change.  After playing with it for several hours, I tried
something rather desperate:  I started reinstalling potato up through
configuring the network.  Actually inadvertently, I chose to let it use
DHCP and the installation opened the network.  I reconfigured the
network to my fixed IP address, rebooted and all was well.  Needless to
say I am perplexed.

Any thoughts on the cause of this, or on a real way to fix it should it
occur again would be most appreciated.
