No, it's xscreensaver that does recommend perl which make dselect select
perl which will remove perl-5.005 and all the packages that depends on
perl-5.005 including debconf and all the packages using debconf ... (I may
over emphasize here but you get the idea ... you see too how dselect is
very bad at managing dependencies, it doesn't matter about removing
perl-5.005-base which is important just for satisfying a recommend on
xscreensaver ...)

To the maintainer of xscreensaver, don't you read debian-devel-announce ?

Since august 1999 no packages should depend on perl ... you can recommends
perl5 instead .... please correct this ASAP !
