Joseph is not a copyright lawyer, and this is/was a job for one. RMS
managed to find legal help, and he's certainly not wildly wealthy
(although that may change with the FSF IPO;-))). Seriously, like you
say, people messing with things that they are not qualified to do may
make for a noble effort, but can produce problems.
