Prepackaged kernels in Potato not configured for DHCP

I just tried to install a Potato system for a colleague.

It reminded me of the fact that one has to recompile the kernels
distributed with Potato in order to use DHCP.

Windows98 machines comes with DHCP configured when delivered...

This is a pity since it's so common to have machines getting a dynamic
IP number via DHCP these days.

Are the standard kernels konfigured the way they are for security
reasons? Then maybe one should make some change in the architecture
so that it is possible to use DHCP without using tcpdump or other
snooping tools.
