This would make perfect sense if the race condition were between the rendering
engine and the network layer. On the 14.4 the rendering engine could probably
always finish parsing the data before the next packet came in and everything
was idle when the network layer tried to interrupt.

Well, just a hunch, I would be curious to know if there's any correlation.

I have a 56K flaky modem connection and netscape (smotif libc5 .deb) is mostly stable. most of the time when it crashes it appears to be while its loading a page and flaky modem decides to drop the connection.. (which it does every 10 hours on the dot)

note the modem is in a mac acting as a masquerading gateway.
