Which date is on the borked floppies? I installed a system recently with the xx-xx-2000 ones, and they worked perfectly... where is the permission problem? (so I can fix it)
it was 2.2.3 of the boot floppies, to see if you are affected check the permissions of anything with a symlink to it, they will be 777 if you got the buggy ones.
find / -type f -perm +0002 -exec ls -ld {} \;
if you get lots of results from that then you have been bitten...
