What rules? First, the stipulation that designers must submit two logos
is not reasonable. It's hard enough to come up with *one* logo--let's
not shoot ourselves in the foot by making the requirements so difficult
that good designs are never even submitted. Second, the distinction
between the "formal" and "informal" logos is undefined and extremely
unclear. "Informal" in what sense? The penguin (or whatever) should
take off his tux, or what? Third, as far as entries being
"Linux-centric", the name of this thing is Debian GNU/Linux, is it not?
Finally, the only rules I'm aware of are the ones on the GIMP site,
reproduced below. Wichert's message went only to debian-devel, not to
any wider audience, and says that it's only preliminary, so I didn't
take it as being anything official.

HERE are the rules as posted at the GIMP site:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The folks at Debian want not just one, no, but two logos! Thats right,
two wonderful logos for the price of one! Why two you ask? One is to be
for "liberal" use - for everyone - and one is for "official" purposes -
Debian consented materials ;).
Furthermore there are the following restrictions:
- logos should look good in black/white
- logo must be scalable
- not too detailed, for low resolutions
- the string "Debian" must be able to be added at the bottom w/o making
it look bad
As always with logo contests, we'd like you to give us the .xcf files as
well.
The voting on this contest will be handled in two steps: First a small,
very 'leet group of Debian Haxors will select a "Top-X" list, where X is
an element of the natural numbers. Then, all Debian developers get to
vote from this list. So no voting will be held here.
Deadline: 28. Febuary, 1999
